Pioneer Descendants Gathering, 2014 - Douglas County, Missouri.

Since the Ozarks' History Blog started in 2008, there are a few articles that have been continually popular.

There is one that clearly stands out...

Pioneer Descendants Gathering - Douglas County, Missouri.

The “Pioneer Descendants Gathering,” that is hosted on an Ozark farm is owned by Dale & Betty Thomas.  Simply put, this is one of the best kept secrets of the Ozarks. This couple has provided this venue, free of charge, for the past thirteen years on their farm on Bryant Creek. That’s right; exhibitors and participants have been coming here the first weekend in October, at no charge, for the last 13 years because of Dale & Betty’s love of what they treasure from our Ozark’s past. If you happen to have the chance to make it there, they usually have a bucket for donations if you would like to show your appreciation for their work & efforts.

These gatherings are not thrown together haphazardly. All exhibits, demonstrations, and animals must be approved by the Dale & Betty; everything has a purpose in teaching & retaining past Ozark customs & traditions. This event is also promoted by many of the descendants of Tom Brown and John Burden.

I will be there at my Ozarks' History Booth. I have a new CD out with 100 Civil War tales from S. C. Turnbo. This CD contains over 7 hours of stories. All stories are on one CD in MP3 format; they are sold for $15.

I will also be signing my book, Bald Knobbers: Chronicles of Vigilante Justice

If you would like to get up close & personal with different Bald Knobber masks, I will also have a few on display. So, bring you camera and get a picture of some Ozark mischief.

Ozarks Genealogical Society

I will be traveling to Greene County, Missouri, the 24th of September and give a lecture at the Ozarks Genealogical Society. The topic will be Little Known Bald Knobber Influences Throughout the Ozarks. As a boy growing up in Ozark County, I was fascinated with the notorious Bald Knobbers. Years later, it would lead to research and finally to the publication of my book, Bald Knobbers: Chronicles of Vigilante Justice. After the lecture I will sign books.

While there, I will show a glimpse or two of projects I'm endeavoring to finish soon. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. at The Library Center

The address is 4653 S. Campbell, Springfield, Missouri.

I also plan on having a new product available by that date. I have been working on recording the audio of the first 100 stories of the Silas Claiborne "S.C." Turnbo Collection. This first installments contains over 7 hours of stories in MP3 format. These stories contain harrowing times throughout the Civil War in the Ozarks. I figured that I might as well use my Southern Drawl & Ozark Diction and put it to good use. Shoot, I was raise in the the same area & county where Turnbo was from. Therefore, I've endeavored to narrate Turnbo's stories in true Ozark character.

I have traveled to Little Rock to the Arkansas History Commission to personally check & verify the script of these stories. I've made visits & phone calls in order to get the correct pronunciation of names & places. I even pronounce the word "Missouri" as “Missouruh.”

I will be talking more about these stories in the future.

  The price will be $15.00.

  Enjoy youOzarks' History.
